Jordan Henderson hopes Steven Gerrard will stay at Liverpool

Jordan Henderson is hopeful that Steven Gerrard will stay at Liverpool following the captain's claims that he is open to leaving Anfield.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is hopeful that Steven Gerrard will stay at Anfield for "many years to come".

The Reds captain recently admitted that he is open to leaving his boyhood club at the end of the season if he is not offered a new contract.

Following Gerrard's claims, manager Brendan Rodgers revealed at the weekend that the club have opened talks with the midfielder about fresh terms.

"Stevie is a massive player for us," Sky Sports News quotes Henderson as saying. "He is our captain, our leader and a great role model for a lot of younger lads. Hopefully he will be a very big player for us for many years to come."

Gerrard joined Liverpool when he was nine years old.
