Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: 'Trent Alexander-Arnold deserves starting role'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that Trent Alexander-Arnold is fully deserving of his place in the starting lineup.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has backed Trent Alexander-Arnold to learn from any mistakes that he makes in the first team.

Alexander-Arnold has impressed since his introduction into the senior setup, with 34 appearances being made in all competitions, but both of Manchester United's goals in the 2-1 win over Liverpool last weekend came from the right-back's side of the pitch.

However, Klopp has backed Alexander-Arnold to continue to improve this season, saying that the 19-year-old is deserving of his place in the starting lineup.

At a press conference, the 50-year-old told reporters: "The reason Trent is playing is not because he's Trent or he's a Scouser. It's because of his quality.

"His strength is a little bit more in the offensive side. The goal was bad defending but not him alone. Because of his age he will make mistakes, but will learn."

With Joe Gomez out injured, Alexander-Arnold is likely to start in Liverpool's fixture with Watford on Saturday.
