James Milner: 'Fans will see the best of me in central role at Liverpool'

Liverpool midfielder James Milner hopes that fans will now see the best of him as he looks to nail down a central role at Anfield after his move from Manchester City.

Liverpool recruit James Milner has insisted that the club's fans will see the best of him as he looks to play a central role in the Anfield side.

Milner joined the Reds earlier this summer having failed to agree a new contract with Manchester City, and has since stated that he plans to nail down a more specific role in Brendan Rodgers's team after playing in a number of different positions at City.

"This move was a selfish move for me," said Milner, according to the Daily Mail.

"I played at City in different positions. The team will always come first, that's the way I believe it should be.

"But I think the move to come to here and take that mantle on myself was more of a selfish move and hopefully I can contribute to success at Liverpool. I'd like to think you will see the best of me now I am in the central role."

Milner spent five years at City, scoring 13 goals in 147 appearances for the club.
