Half-Time Report: Liverpool, Crystal Palace drawing on Steven Gerrard's Anfield farewell

Jason Puncheon's free kick shortly before the interval means that Liverpool and Crystal Palace are all square at half time in Steven Gerrard's Anfield farewell.

Jason Puncheon curled home a 43rd-minute free kick to bring Crystal Palace level against Liverpool on Steven Gerrard's Anfield farewell.

Before kickoff, Liverpool captain Gerrard was given a guard of honour by both teams and there was also recognition for Reds boss Brendan Rodgers as a plane with the banner "In Rodgers We Trust" flew over the stadium not long into the match.

With all the focus on Gerrard and there being little to play for for either team, the game was tepid in the early stages with neither side threatening a goal.

Midway through the half, Yannick Bolasie saw a goal-bound effort deflected just wide, but Liverpool had the lead soon after.

The Reds went ahead in the 26th minute when former Liverpool player Martin Kelly misdirected a pass to fellow centre-back Scott Dann, allowing Adam Lallana to sneak in and fire past Wayne Hennessey.

After falling behind, Palace came to life and had a number of chances before Puncheon's equaliser.

First, Joe Ledley and Yannick Bolasie blazed over good chances before Puncheon went close with a deflected shot that Simon Mignolet, on his 53rd appearance of the season, kept out with a strong right hand.

The Liverpool keeper was at fault for the goal, though, as he allowed Puncheon's free kick to nestle in the bottom corner on the side of the goal that he should have been protecting.
