Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reveals that Jamie Carragher will be welcomed back to the club as a coach whenever he wants.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Jamie Carragher will be welcomed back to the club as a coach whenever he wants.

The long-serving centre-back will make the last of his 737 appearances for the club when they take on Queens Park Rangers at Anfield today.

The 35-year-old will be part of Sky Sports's coverage next season, but Rodgers said that the player could still have a role to play at the Reds in the future.

"At this moment in time, coaching is not in his thinking but in the future, I'd love the opportunity to work with him as a coach at some stage," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

"I think he has so much to offer on the coaching side. We have left it open ended. He's someone I will keep in touch with. He's not going to go away and that's it. The door is always open".

Carragher made his debut in a League Cup defeat to Middlesbrough in 1997.
