Mamadou Sakho: 'Liverpool deserve to be top of Premier League'

Mamadou Sakho claims that Liverpool deserve to be top ahead of Sunday's crucial match against Manchester City.

Mamadou Sakho has insisted that Liverpool deserve to be top of the Premier League ahead of Sunday's crucial match with Manchester City.

Many believe that the result of the game at Anfield this weekend will have a big say in who wins the title, and Sakho claims that the squad are well aware of how important the outcome will be as they look to win the league for the first time since 1990.

"Of course this could be the biggest match Liverpool have played in 24 years," the French defender told members of the media.

"We've not stolen the position where we are today. We deserve to be where we are. We are confident about facing their strikers. City score a lot of goals but so do we.

"The last time Liverpool won the title I was four months old and now I am 24 - I had just been born. Honestly, we will give everything until the last second of the last match."

Sakho could be forced to start the game on the bench if Daniel Agger wins his battle to be fit.
