Martin Skrtel hopes to stay at Liverpool for many more years

Martin Skrtel insists that he wants to stay at Liverpool for a "long period" of time, despite being at the centre of previous exit rumours.

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has insisted that he wants to remain at Anfield for many more years.

The 29-year-old has been with the Merseyside outfit for six years after he joined from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.

The defender has been at the centre of transfer speculation over the last couple of seasons, but Skrtel has no intentions of leaving having secured a regular place in the first team under manager Brendan Rodgers.

"I never thought I would stay here for six years, so I'm happy and proud to have been here for such a long period," Skrtel told the club's official show #LFCWORLD. "We will see how many more years I am at the club but I hope it's going to be for a long period."

Skrtel is expected to start in Saturday's Premier League clash against Arsenal at Anfield.
