Brendan Rodgers dismisses Liverpool title talk

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers plays down suggestions that the team can win the Premier League this season.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed suggestions that the team can win the Premier League this season.

The fourth-placed Reds are currently eight points behind leaders Arsenal, who they welcome to Anfield on Saturday.

Despite a decent campaign so far for his side, Rodgers does not believe that they can sustain a serious title challenge.

"I think for us, as a team, it's too early for that," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"I was at the Manchester City-Chelsea game the other night and I look at the squads they have, which they have built up over the last few years. And it's very difficult for us, even though we have competed right the way through the season.

"So, I wouldn't say for us this year, no. We wouldn't be challengers for it."

Liverpool head into their encounter with Arsenal on an unbeaten run of five matches in the top flight.
