Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge: 'Raheem Sterling just wants to play regularly'

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge believes that Raheem Sterling is only concerned about playing regularly and hopes that he stays at Anfield.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is hopeful that Raheem Sterling will stay at Anfield, and insists that his teammate just wants to play regularly.

Doubts over the 20-year-old's Liverpool future arose when he rejected a new contract worth £100,000 a week by the club.

The England international also revealed in an interview with BBC Sport that he was 'flattered' by reports linking him with a summer move to Arsenal.

However, Sturridge believes that Sterling is only concerned with matters on the pitch and he has vowed to support the youngster with whatever decision he makes.

"I don't know what Raheem wants to do but it is just important to be able to play regularly," Sturridge told PA. "As long as he is playing regularly he will be happy - I don't think it is anything to with anything other than that and I hope he will stay at the club.

"It is important, regardless of who you are, to show what you can do, not just for Raheem but any young player. It is important to play games and gain experience so whatever decision he makes I am behind him 100%."

Sterling, who was heckled during Liverpool's official New Balance kit launch today, has two years remaining on his current deal.
