Phil Thompson fears Raheem Sterling will leave Liverpool

Raheem Sterling will probably leave Liverpool at the end of the season, says Phil Thompson.

Former Liverpool captain Phil Thompson has predicted that winger Raheem Sterling will leave the club at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old rejected the offer of a new contract, worth around £100,000 per week, earlier in the campaign and is reportedly a transfer target for both Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Reds drew 1-1 with the Blues last weekend which all but ended their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, and Thompson fears that the youngster will move on in the summer.

He told Sky Sports News: "I think it will be very difficult for him to stay at Liverpool now. He's shown all the signs that he's ready and prepared to leave the club."

Sterling joined Liverpool from Queens Park Rangers in 2010.
