Team News: Steven Gerrard misses out for Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers drops Steven Gerrard to the substitutes' bench for his side's Premier League clash against Sunderland.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has rested Steven Gerrard for his side's Premier League match against Sunderland this afternoon.

Gerrard drops to the bench with Tuesday's must-win Champions League game against Basel in mind.

Philippe Coutinho returns from injury to start, while Alberto Moreno also takes a place in the side.

Adam Johnson and Wes Brown, meanwhile, come in for Sunderland after missing the midweek loss against Manchester City with minor knocks.

Steven Fletcher makes the bench despite suffering from a back injury while on-loan Sebastian Coates is ineligible against his parent club.
