Jordan Henderson reportedly agrees a new three-year deal in principle with Liverpool following a few weeks of uncertainty.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly set to sign a new three-year deal at Anfield.

With transfer activity quiet on the red half of Merseyside this summer, the powers-that-be at Liverpool have been prioritising contract extensions for a key contingent of players.

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk have all penned extensions with Jurgen Klopp's men, although there was some initial uncertainty surrounding Henderson's situation.

The 31-year-old was briefly tipped to exit Liverpool amid his contract stand-off, but The Athletic claims that talks have progressed and he has agreed a new three-year deal in principle with the club.

The report adds that Henderson could stay on for a fourth year depending on how many appearances he makes, and Klopp was instrumental in convincing the Reds captain to extend his stay.

Henderson missed Saturday's 3-0 victory over Norwich City as he builds up his fitness, but the England international is thought to have a strong chance of facing Burnley this weekend.

The Premier League and Champions League-winning midfielder has made 392 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions since 2011, scoring 30 goals and setting up 51 more.
