Liverpool to open Luis Suarez talks with Barcelona

Liverpool will reportedly open talks with Barcelona over a potential transfer for Luis Suarez tomorrow.

Liverpool will open talks with Barcelona over the possible transfer of striker Luis Suarez tomorrow, according to reports.

The future of Suarez has been the subject of intense speculation once again this summer following his performances during Liverpool's title challenge in the Premier League last season.

The 27-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to La Liga, with Barcelona and Real Madrid currently leading the race to sign the Uruguay international.

However, Liverpool are reportedly not willing to entertain offers of less than £80m for their star player, who scored a record-equalling 31 league goals on his way to winning both the FWA and PFA Player of the Year awards last season.

That puts Barcelona in the driving seat for any deal as they are able to offer Liverpool Alexis Sanchez as part of the transfer, with Brendan Rodgers understood to be a big fan of the £30m-rated Chilean.

The Reds resisted heavy interest in Suarez last summer, but his position at the club has come under question again recently after he was handed a four-month ban from football-related activity for biting Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.

The ban means that he would be unable to train or play for Liverpool until November 1, although the suspension is not thought to have deterred his potential suitors.

Reports have now emerged suggesting that Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has agreed to meet a Barcelona delegation in London tomorrow after the Catalan giants finally made an approach for Suarez.

The prospect of Sanchez moving in the opposite direction will also be high on the agenda, with Liverpool insistent that they will not lower their asking price.

Suarez has scored 82 goals in 133 matches for Liverpool since joining from Ajax in 2011.
