Espanyol starlet Mateo Joseph Fernandez is reportedly undergoing his medical ahead of finalising his move to Leeds United.

The 18-year-old forward is believed to have held positive talks with the Whites over the past few months, with a permanent deal now edging closer to completion.

According to Sky Sports News reporter Tim Thornton, the teenager is undergoing his medical before the club officially announce his arrival at Elland Road.

Fernandez is expected to initially go into the club's Under-23s setup, though Leeds have high hopes that the forward can soon establish himself as a first-team regular.

The Spaniard, who was born in Spain to two English parents, was also attracting interest from European giants Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City; however, Leeds seem to have won the race for his signature.

Fernandez, who is out of contract in the summer, is yet to make his senior debut for Espanyol, but is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Spanish football.
