Brendan Rodgers confirms Swansea City contact for Joe Allen

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits that he has spoken to Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins over the potential capture of midfielder Joe Allen.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he has spoken to Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins over the signing of midfielder Joe Allen.

The Merseyside outfit, who lost 2-1 to Roma at Fenway Park, Boston in a pre-season friendly last night, have been linked with the Welsh midfielder in recent weeks.

Rodgers, who left the Liberty Stadium for Anfield last month, signed an agreement with the former Championship outfit stating that he would not poach any of his former players for 12 months.

However, reports have claimed that the agreement can be scrapped if Swansea feel that a transfer is in the best interests of the club or rival outfits show interest in the same player.

"We have just spoken with Swansea," Rodgers told Sky Sports News. "I have got a brilliant relationship with Huw Jenkins the chairman. We have had a private conversation which will remain private.

"On the back end of that there has been lots of media speculation and gossip of which unfortunately some of it is not true. Joe is a very talented player but he is a Swansea player."

Allen is currently with Team GB for the London 2012 Olympics tournament.
