Brendan Rodgers will make his decision on whether to keep Alberto Aquilani at Liverpool during the first few training sessions.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he will make his decision on whether to keep Alberto Aquilani during the first few training sessions.

The Italian midfielder's future at Anfield is wrapped up in uncertainly as he has failed to make an impact in the Premier League since joining the Reds from Roma in 2009.

Aquilani was farmed out on loan to Juventus and AC Milan over the past two seasons, but his agent recently ruled out a similar move back to Italy this term.

The 28-year-old now faces the task of impressing Rodgers during pre-season training sessions that will decide his future at Liverpool under the new manager.

"The situation with Alberto is simple," Rodgers is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror. "I have wanted to assess him over the first few weeks of training.

"Over the course of the next week, I will make a decision on what's going to be best for us, whether he will be useful for the group or whether it's best for him to move on."

Fiorentina are said to be keen on signing Aquilani for the 2012-13 campaign.
