Newcastle United have made a renewed offer of £6.9m for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, according to a report.
The French side said yesterday that the Magpies would have to offer £8.6m to land the 27-year-old, but Magpies manager Alan Pardew is confident that he can wrap up the deal for a discounted price.
Sky Sports News reports that Newcastle have tested Lyon's resolve by tabling a bid for the striker, who said last month that he wants to leave the club.
Reports have also surfaced that Gomis failed to attend a meeting with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
"We gave him a letter by hand about the meeting but he did not come," L'Equipe quotes Aulas as saying.
Pardew admitted earlier this month that he is chasing a striker, but moves for Darren Bent and Loic Remy have stalled.
