Kevin De Bruyne is set to miss Belgium's opening Euro 2020 fixture against Russia on June 12, after sustaining facial fractures in the Champions League final.

Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is expected to miss his country's opening Euro 2020 fixture against Russia on June 12 due to injury.

The Manchester City playmaker suffered facial fractures in a collision with Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger in the Champions League final last weekend.

De Bruyne will not require surgery but is set to need a protective face mask on his return, similar to the one which Rudiger was wearing during the collision between the two players.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Belgium boss Roberto Martinez said: "De Bruyne is unlikely to be fit for that first match so whoever replaces him will have to show he's ready. We made a decision about his mask. It will be one of the producers who made Jan Vertonghen's mask. We were very satisfied with that.

"I would say that until next week we won't know exactly where we are with Kevin. Now, allow him to relax. He could be available for the Euros but we don't know when at the moment. It's too early to give you an answer now, we must first get the green light from the medical side."

Belgium, the number-one ranked side in the world, are in Group B for this summer's championships and will play Denmark and Finland following their opener against Russia.
