Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Sheffield United

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's injury and suspension news ahead of their Premier League clash with Sheffield United on Saturday.

Manchester City will be looking to end 2023 by securing their fourth successive win in all competitions when they welcome Sheffield United to the Etihad Stadium for a Premier League fixture on Saturday.

The recently-crowned Club World Cup champions returned to Premier League action on Wednesday evening and claimed a 3-1 victory at Everton courtesy of second-half strikes from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva.

Pep Guardiola's side, who have moved up to fourth in the Premier League table, were without a few key players for their trip to Goodison Park and also had another star name forced off in the first half, providing some concerns for the Citizens ahead of the weekend.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest with Chris Wilder's side.

John Stones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: January 7 (vs. Huddersfield Town)

John Stones picked up an ankle injury in the first half of City's win at Everton and was spotted leaving Goodison Park with a protective boot. Guardiola has since revealed that the defender's issue "doesn't look good" and he will not be involved against Sheffield United this weekend.

Erling Haaland

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: January 7 (vs. Huddersfield Town)

Erling Haaland was not named in the matchday squad for the win at Everton and is yet to take part in full first-team training since sustaining a foot injury earlier this month. Guardiola has since confirmed that the striker is not fit to feature against the Blades.

Kevin De Bruyne

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: January 7 (vs. Huddersfield Town)

Kevin De Bruyne, who has been sidelined since August with a hamstring injury, was also absent from the matchday squad against Everton, with Guardiola stating that the playmaker "had fatigue" after "training hard" earlier in the week; the Belgian is still not quite ready to return this weekend.

Jeremy Doku

Jeremy Doku has missed Man City's last seven matches in all tournaments with a muscle injury and the winger, who is yet to return to full first-team training, is also sidelined for Saturday's match.
