Owen Hargreaves: I only score good goals

Owen Hargreaves says that he tends to only score good goals following his debut effort in Man City's Carling Cup win over Birmingham.

Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves has said that he tends to only score good goals following his debut goal for City in Wednesday's 2-0 Carling Cup win over holders Birmingham City.

The midfielder put the hosts ahead after 17 minutes with a 25-yard effort.

"The lads did well, professional and to get a couple of early goals helped and all in all it was a decent performance," the 30-year-old told the club's official website.

"I don't score a ton because I am a midfielder, but when I do score they are normally from distance. I don't get many but they tend to be good."

The former Manchester United and Bayern Munich player has suffered from injury problems throughout his career but is hoping for a successful season at the Etihad Stadium.

"I don't think people would believe me if I said everything that went on, but I am just happy to be back as I never anticipated in my life I would be out for three years - but I am back and I am happy," he added.

"There were times when it looked bleak and spoke to the best medical people and asked if I was barking up the wrong tree, as it was ridiculous but no they said I had football left in me and believe that too."

City next host Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
