Manuel Pellegrini recognises missed opportunity following Burnley draw

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini recognises that his side missed out on a big opportunity as they were pegged back by a resurgent Burnley in the Premier League.

Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini has recognised that his side missed out on a big opportunity as they gave up a two-goal lead against Burnley in the Premier League.

The Sky Blues surrendered two points on a day that league leaders Chelsea were also held, as goals from George Boyd and Ashley Barnes rescued a point for Sean Dyche's men at the Etihad.

"It was a big opportunity to get two more points. Everybody would think the game was over but I always say it is never over until the last minute. Burnley's first goal was a mistake of the referee," said Pellegrini, according to BBC Sport.

"The pitch was very heavy. Two games in 48 hours but we were winning 2-0. Once it was 2-2 we didn't have the legs to score. We only had two shots after that. In the first half Burnley didn't have any clear chances. We didn't play well in the second half.

"We have 43 points, we have the second half of the season to decide who is the best team. We were at home. That is an advantage but Chelsea and Manchester United also drew. We will see whether Yaya [Toure] or Vincent [Kompany] will be fit for the next game."

Manchester City currently hold second spot in the league table, three points behind Jose Mourinho's men.
