Karim Rekik has claimed that Manchester City have blocked PSV Eindhoven's attempts to re-sign him on loan, because they want him to play in a different league.
The 20-year-old has spent the last two seasons at the Philips Stadion and was part of PSV's Eredivisie-winning squad this term.
However, Rekik has revealed that the Citizens are keen to see the defender sample football in another country.
He is quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying: "Manchester City has a plan to loan me in a different league. Now I just enjoy the moment and we will see what happens next season.
"We will take time to handle it calmly and well."
Rekik has also had loan spells with Portsmouth and Blackpool, prior to joining PSV.
