Manchester United ride their luck but defend doggedly to go in level with Galatasaray at the break.

A youthful Manchester United side have produced a spirited display to go in level with Galatasaray at the break.

United rode an early storm and looked dangerous on the counter through Danny Welbeck, who was unlucky not to pick out a pass after a break down the flank.

Galatasaray dominated possession but were unable to create many clear-cut chances thanks to some spirited United defending.

Nordin Amrabat ran Rafael ragged for most of the opening period and could have scored the opening goal when he unleashed a curling shot which was deflected wide by Michael Carrick.

In-form striker Burak Yilmaz failed to connect with a header from point-blank range from the resulting corner.

Nick Powell nearly marked his first Champions League start with a goal five minutes before the break, crashing a header off the bar after a corner from Tom Cleverley.
