Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal gives Luke Shaw a target for injury return

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal sets the Europa League final as a target comeback date for Luke Shaw's return to action.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has urged Luke Shaw to target the Europa League final as his comeback date from injury.

The England international suffered a double leg fracture during a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven in September last year.

The initial diagnosis indicated that Shaw would not feature again this season, but Van Gaal has suggested that the left-back may be available to play in the Europa League final in Basel on May 18, providing United get there.

When asked by MUTV if Shaw could feature in the competition, Van Gaal said: "He could play in the final, eh? Maybe you don't think that but it's still possible that Shaw could play in that final. I have said that to him.

"You never know. Still, it is halfway [through the recovery]. It can slow down, his revalidation, so we have to wait and see."

United dropped into the Europa League after failing to qualify from the group stage of the Champions League.
