Half-Time Report: Bastian Schweinsteiger cancels out Jamie Vardy's record-breaking opener

Bastian Schweinsteiger cancels out Jamie Vardy's record-breaking opener to ensure that the scores are level between Leicester City and Manchester United at the break.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has cancelled out Jamie Vardy's 11th goal in 11 Premier League matches to ensure that the scores are level between Leicester City and Manchester United at the break this evening.

With both sides vying for top spot in the table, the match had a cautious start, as the visitors were unable to create any clear opportunities from their considerable possession.

United captain Wayne Rooney tested Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel with a tame effort early on, while N'Golo Kante saw an effort deflect away for a corner at the other end of the pitch.

The visitors' best early chance fell to Chris Smalling at a corner, but the defender struggled to make a good connection to the delivery.

The hosts took the lead on 24 minutes with a swift counter attack from a United corner, as Fuchs released Vardy down the right channel, before the former Stocksbridge Park Steels man drilled a low effort past David de Gea - breaking former Red Devils striker Ruud van Nistelrooy's previous record of 10 goals in as many matches.

Claudio Ranieri's side took confidence from Vardy's opener, and came close to a second goal after the half-hour mark when Riyad Mahrez tested De Gea following a neat one-two with Shinji Okazaki.

Louis van Gaal's side improved before the break, and almost found an equaliser on 39 minutes when Rooney was presented with a chance from a corner, but the forward's view on goal was obscured by Smalling and the 30-year-old could not produce a finish.

United equalised on the stroke of half time through Schweinsteiger, who headed in from a well-struck Juan Mata corner.
