Louis van Gaal confident on Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw fitness

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is confident that Wayne Rooney and Luke Shaw will be fit for his side's next match despite suffering injuries against Crystal Palace.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is optimistic that injuries sustained by Wayne Rooney and Luke Shaw in his side's win over Crystal Palace are not serious.

The United skipper limped out of their 2-1 victory over the Eagles with a dead leg, while Shaw was stretchered off after taking a blow to the head at Selhurst Park.

However, the Dutchman has revealed that the initial prognosis on both players is positive and should not rule them out of action next week.

"It was very bad because our team was out of balance," Van Gaal told the club's official website. "Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back.

"Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time but, still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace.

"Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don't think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play."

With their victory, United moved seven points clear of Liverpool in the race for the final Champions League spot.
