David Moyes's first competitive game in charge couldn't come at a bigger venue as Manchester United faced Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield at Wembley.
There was little drama for Moyes as United breezed past the Latics thanks to Robin van Persie's brace.
Read how it all unfolded at the national stadium in our minute-by-minute updates below.
Afternoon folks! We're just under half an hour from kickoff in the capital. First things first, the teams...
UNITED XI: De Gea; Rafael, Vidic, Jones, Evra; Zaha, Carrick, Cleverley, Giggs; Van Persie, Welbeck
WIGAN XI: Carson; Boyce, Barnett, Perch, Crainey; Watson, McArthur, McCarthy; McClean, Holt, Maloney
SUBS: And the benches today:
United: Lindegaard, Evans, Anderson, Smalling, Valencia, Januzaj, Kagawa
Wigan: Nicholls, Gomez, Espinoza, McCann, McManaman, Fortune, Dicko

Moyes tells ITV Sport that it's been a busy pre-season, also admitting that form has been "a bit mixed". Coyle says that there's "always an opportunity when it's 11 v 11".
Moyes also reveals that Rooney still isn't fit enough to play today and has been training with the reserves to avoid any contact in training.
Let's take a closer look at the two teams. Moyes hands Wilfried Zaha a debut on the right of midfield and it's surprising not to see Shinji Kagawa in the middle. There's also a start for Ryan Giggs, still going strong at 39!
For the Latics, Owen Coyle gives a debut to James McClean, who completed his move from Sunderland just this week. McClean is picked ahead of Callum McManaman, who impressed greatly in that famous victory over City in the FA Cup in May.
GOAL-LINE TECHNOLOGY IS HERE! Yes, you heard me. Today marks the first time that goal-line technology will be used in English football. See below for how it will look like to referees when the ball crosses the line.

The FA's Twitter feed has been awash with pre-match stats on today's game. Here are some of the best:
@LaticsOfficial have beaten @ManUtd only once in 17 attempts (in all competitions); losing the other 16 #commshield
@ManUtd have been involved in more penalty shootouts in the Community Shield than any other team (six) #commshield
This match marks the first time @LaticsOfficial have appeared in the Community Shield #commshield
This year’s #commshield game will be the first time a club outside the top division features in the fixture since 1980 (West Ham)

The two sides are ready and waiting in the tunnel. Oddly, Moyes and Coyle will lead out the two clubs instead of the captains (Nemanja Vidic and Emerson Boyce).

As the pre-match handshakes are conducted, let me just bring you a piece of news coming out of the United dressing room today. Antonio Valencia has relinquished the famous number seven shirt and returned to his previous number of 25 for this season. Cue Ronaldo to return fever!
PREDICTION! We're moments away from kickoff at the national stadium so I best get my prediction in. Sorry Wigan fans, but I can't see your boys pulling off another heroic display. I'm going for a 2-0 United win.
KICKOFF! We're underway at Wembley, with half of the pitch in shadow. Maloney and McArthur get the ball rolling.
A trickle of excitement filters through the United fans as Zaha tricks his way past one man before overdoing it and losing possession. It's a big day for the youngster, who has been involved in every single one of United's pre-season games.
The dugouts are looking right into the sun and it's not that easy for Moyes and co. to see the action as they shield their eyes from the rays.
Jones commits the first foul of the game by bundling into McCarthy from behind when challenging for a high ball.
GOAL! United 1-0 Wigan (Van Persie)
Didn't take long, did it? It's classy stuff from United as Giggs backheels into Van Persie who pings it out to Evra charging up the left side. The Frenchman takes a touch before curling over for Van Persie whose header is simply brilliant. He's at least 12 yards out but still manages to power it back across Carson into the bottom corner.
The more and more you watch that header, the better it gets. Van Persie was a long way out for a header but timed it perfectly to generate enough power to beat Carson. He may be the most expensive player for Fantasy Football players, but I think a lot of them might take the hit to have the Dutchman in their team!
United have slowed the pace right down in the last couple of minutes. They've got their goal will expect more int he remaining 80 minutes or so.
Excellent low cross from Zaha that's defended even better by Barnett under his own crossbar, managing to boot it over and out for a corner.
UNITED SUB: Not a good sight for United fans as Rafael hobbles off after a challenge from McClean. Chris Smalling is the Brazilian's replacement and he'll either go straight to right-back or swap with Jones.
It's Jones who has gone and filled in for Rafael on the right of defence. He'll be disappointed with that as he's said before that he wants to get more minutes at centre-back in a red shirt.
Wigan should be able to create chances today with that frontline of Maloney, Holt and McClean. At the moment they're just looking a little panicky whenever they have a bit of space in the final third.
McClean picks out his onrushing left-back Crainey moving into the box. His touch is a little heavy though and Smalling does well to block the cross and prevent a corner before McClean hacks down Zaha to break up the play.

Giggs shows that he's still got a solid engine by sprinting to track down Maloney and slide in to win the ball. What a legend he is.
Zaha has certainly seen a lot of the ball in the opening half hour. At the moment he's just little too eager to showcase himself and just neds to simplify everything a little.
Best moment of the match for Wigan. McClean whips over a fabulous cross from the left touchline that's begging to be put in. McArthur nudges Vidic out of the way though and referee Clattenburg blows up.
CHANCE! Excellent stuff from Wigan. They patiently work the ball up the field before Crainey clips over for McClean in behind Jones. Smalling misjudges the bounce and McClean is the wrong side but doesn't make the most of it by volleying across the six-yard box with no blue-and-white shirt there to tap in.
SAVE! Cleverley fizzes it in to Welbeck who takes a smart touch before spinning and curling for the far corner. It takes a slight deflection but Carson is still there to push it out for a corner. Van Persie bends it over and Welbeck is there again but heads over.
Come on lads, it's only the Community Shield! Holt and Vidic exchange words after a tussle in the box with Wigan lining up a free kick. McClean is eventually allowed to take it but can't beat the first United defender.
Another free kick for Wigan in a similar position. Looks like Watson is going to take this one...
CHANCE! Watson goes deep with the delivery and there's three Wigan men unmarked at the back stick. Boyce is the one who gets up to head it back across goal but Barnett on the other side of the area isn't tall enough to divert it goalwards.
Just the one added minute at the end of the first half.
HALF-TIME: United 1-0 Wigan
The two sides are separated by Robin van Persie's sixth-minute header. The Premier League champions looked completely untroubled for much of the half but Wigan improved in the final 10 minutes to give Coyle something to build on in the second half.
Those of you just getting in from cutting the lawn or whatever, read our short summary of the opening 45 here.
STAT ATTACK! Although the possession was dead level at 50-50, Wigan were unable to get off a shot. United only had three, getting two on target - the goal and Welbeck's snap shot.
Away from the footy, I'd recommend you open this link in a new tab to follow our coverage of the Ashes. England are three down in their second innings in the fourth Test.
We're likely to see Mr Kagawa in the second half but one man who I'm hoping comes on is Adnan Januzaj. The young Belgian has been the shining light of United's pre-season and you can find out more about him in our feature here.
The two dies are back out at sun-soaked Wembley. No changes from either boss.
KICKOFF! Van Persie and Welbeck get us back underway.
Early chance for Wigan to swing it into the area from the left flank. Watson's delivery is a good one bu it's defended even better by Smalling.
YELLOW! First booking of the afternoon is handed to McArthur for cynically tripping Welbeck who had escaped his grasp.
United charge down the other end and have a chance to double their lead when Cleverley is teed up for a shot from the edge of the area. He connects horribly though and the ball bobbles wide at a harmless pace.
Good pressure from McClean down the Wigan left forces Zaha into a rushed clearance that goes out of play. The new Latic has certainly seen more of the ball than Maloney on the other wing.
More running from the Irishman down the left side sees Wigan earn their first corner that's headed away on the dive by Van Persie.
Moyes had to make the first substitution when Rafael picked up an injury in the first half, but who will be first to blink in making a tactical change. Surely Coyle must be thinking about McManaman, who played so well in the FA Cup final here three months ago.
GOAL! United 2-0 Wigan (Van Persie)
RVP at the double! Not quite so tasty this one as the Dutchman works the ball onto his left foot and shoots low. Carson would make an easy save if Perch hadn't stuck out a leg to divert it past the former England keeper into the back of the net.
SUBS: Both managers make changes as Valencia takes the place of a hobbling Zaha for United while Coyle makes a trio of changes bringing on McManaman, McCann and Fortune for Holt, McArthur and McClean.
So Moyes has one change to make. Will he leave Van Persie on to maybe get his hat-trick or bring the Dutchman off to ensure injury is avoided ahead of the new season?
UNITED SUB: It's veteran Giggs who leaves the field for Anderson. It's a shame that we won't see Januzaj today.
JUST WIDE! Almost three for United. Evra is lucky to be played through after the pass his way is deflected behind the defence. He lays it into Van Persie who in turn finds Welbeck. The striker can't quite get off a shot so plays back to Cleverley who prods it on to Valencia. The Ecuadorian eventually gets a shot away that's deflected wide of the far post.
WIGAN SUBS: Oh, there isn't a three-sub limit today it seems. Jordi Gomez and Roger Espinoza have just entered for Shaun Maloney and Ben Watson.
Espinoza tries to make an immediate impact with a volley from the right side of the box. He cuts across it too much though and that's not troubling De Gea, who is still yet to face a shot.
As Evra stays down with what seems like a groin strain the attendance is announced as 80,235. The majority will be United fans.
Telegraph journalist Henry Winter takes a pop at Anderson's weight on Twitter! "Looking at Anderson, the Community Shield is not the only one sponsored by McDonald’s. Good player but needs to shape up."
Cleverley picks out Evra on the left and it looks like the Frenchman's pass across goal for Van Persie is perfect until Barnett slides in to clear. Great defending.
UNITED SUBS: Two more changes from Moyes as Kagawa and Januzaj come on for Welbeck and two-goal man Van Persie.
Evra wants a penalty as McManaman nips in from behind him to prod it out for a corner. Clattenburg rightly says nope.
WIGAN SUB: Nouha Dicko takes the place of James McCarthy with just a few minutes left of this miserable afternoon for Wigan.

YELLOW! Espinoza is shown yellow for a nasty studs-up challenge on Cleverley.
FOUR minutes added on at the end. Can Wigan get a shot on target?
YELLOW! Clattenburg gives Cleverley a booking for taking out Gomez who was looking to start a counter-attack.
Wigan's official Twitter: "Corner in the 91st minutes for Latics....Hmmmmm!"
Like all of their set pieces today, it's a poor one that doesn't even get past the first line of defence.
Brilliant stuff from Evra down the left as he uses his strength before accelerating away and earning a corner.
FULL-TIME: United 2-0 Wigan - Manchester United win the Community Shield
It's a 20th triumph in this event for United as they brush aside Wigan thanks to Van Persie's brace. Wigan only managed one shot and that was a weak effort from Espinoza. De Gea won't have an easier afternoon all season.
Paddy Power take a funny view of the fact that Moyes has won a trophy at the first time of asking: "BREAKING NEWS: David Moyes has won more trophies with Man United than Arsene Wenger has at Arsenal in the last 8 years. #MoyesIn"
