Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has spoken of his excitement about the prospect of playing in the London Olympics this summer.

The 21-year-old has yet to make his full debut for Spain, but he is likely to be taken to Euro 2012 if Iker Casillas, Pepe Reina or Victor Valdes suffer an injury.

Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson does not want any of his players to play in both tournaments as he feels that it would cause fatigue during next season.

However, whether or not he is taken to Poland and Ukraine, the Spaniard is determined to challenge for Olympic gold.

"The Olympics is an important competition for me and for the rest of the players. It's such a great competition, De Gea told The Mirror.

"I have a real desire to be there and to win it."

Spain won the European Under-21 Championships last year and it is expected that the victorious players from that tournament will form the majority of their Olympic squad.
