Stuart Pearce reveals that he found it an easy decision to make Ryan Giggs to captain of Team GB.

Stuart Pearce has revealed that he considered Ryan Giggs to be the "standout" candidate to lead out Great Britain's men's football team at the Olympic Games later this month.

The Football Association confirmed earlier today that the Manchester United midfielder had been chosen by Pearce to take on the skippering duties.

Discussing Giggs's appointment, Pearce admitted that it was an easy decision for him to make.

"Ryan Giggs will captain the group," Pearce told Sky Sports News. "He's been a fantastic professional over the years and is someone I'm looking forward to working alongside.

"I think he was the standout captain in a group that has got the Welsh captain in Aaron Ramsey, Micah Richards, who has captained Manchester City, and Craig Bellamy, who has been around the game a very long time, and one or two other candidates.

"But I think Ryan will gain the respect of the group and he has got the respect of the management as well."

Giggs has never played at a major international tournament.
