Ander Herrera: 'We're lucky to have Wayne Rooney at Manchester United'

Ander Herrera says that Manchester United are "lucky" to have Wayne Rooney, but the striker needs better service from his teammates.

Ander Herrera has claimed that Manchester United are "lucky" to have Wayne Rooney in their team, but the forward should not be solely relied on to provide goals.

The 29-year-old has struggled to impress in the Premier League for the Red Devils so far this season, but on the international stage, he became England's all-time record goalscorer on Tuesday.

Herrera has praised Rooney's quality, but insists that he and his teammates need to provide service to the striker and new £36m arrival Anthony Martial.

"We don't have to give all the responsibility on scoring to Wayne or Anthony Martial," FourFourTwo quotes Herrera as saying. "We have to help. It is very important as a midfielder to score. We all have to help.

"Wayne is very important to us. Most of the times he will score but when he doesn't he is helping the team and he is always fighting for the team.He runs for the rest of the team and he likes to provide assists. We are very lucky to have him."

While Rooney is yet to score in the league this season, he was able to net a hat-trick in a 4-0 triumph over Club Brugge in the Champions League last month.
