Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher backs Marcus Rashford to become Manchester United's "main man" following his run of six goals in eight Premier League matches.

Jamie Carragher has insisted that Manchester United no longer need to recruit a new striker thanks to Marcus Rashford's strong run of form.

The England international has thrived under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, scoring six goals in eight Premier League matches.

Rashford's strike against Leicester City on Sunday proved to be the only goal of the game, as was the case in the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Solskjaer instantly made Rashford his first-choice striker upon succeeding Jose Mourinho in the Old Trafford dugout, and Carragher believes that the 21-year-old can continue leading the line for a while longer yet.

"The form he's in at the moment, if he continues that, they won't need to buy anyone else or bring Romelu Lukaku back into the side. He can be United's main man," Carragher told Sky Sports News following United's win over Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

"I was at this ground to see England against Switzerland and we debated that night whether Rashford could ever be that man.

"I was doubtful of that but what's happened under the interim manager - we talk about an audition for the manager but Rashford can make himself United's centre-forward, show he can be the man to take you to a title or a Champions League."

Rashford has scored more goals in all competitions since his debut (42) than any other United player.
