Jamie Carragher tells Sergio Ramos to be "careful" with referees at Man United

Jamie Carragher suggests that Sergio Ramos will become a target for referees if he plays in the Premier League with Manchester United next season.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has suggested that Sergio Ramos will become a target for Premier League referees if he signs for Manchester United this summer.

The Red Devils are believed to have put forward a £28m bid for the Real Madrid defender.

It has been reported that the Spain international has told club officials at the Bernabeu that he wants to move to Old Trafford in what could become a swap deal involving goalkeeper David de Gea.

Should the 29-year-old make the move, Carragher believes that the defender's disciplinary record of 19 red cards could prove to be a problem in England.

"In Ramos Manchester United will be signing one of the top defenders in Europe and a leader if they can pull the deal off," Carragher wrote on Kicca. "There is still a feeling that he's overrated in England which I disagree with.

"His trophy haul and playing for Real Madrid for so long shows his quality, as the pressure to perform for club and country for so long is huge.

"At 29 he should be at his best and physically I think he'll be fine in the Premier League, but he will have to be careful with the referees who I'm sure will be aware of his disciplinary record if he arrives!"

Ramos has been with Real for the last decade.
