Tom Cleverley wants to prove critics wrong with Aston Villa performances

Manchester United loanee Tom Cleverley admits that he wants to prove his critics wrong by playing in a more attacking role at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa's on-loan midfielder Tom Cleverley is eager to prove his critics wrong during his stint at the Midlands club.

The 25-year-old joined Villa from Manchester United in the summer transfer window after dropping down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The England international faced criticism for his performances both at international level and in a United shirt, but believes that he can prove his worth in a more attacking role.

"If you looked at the games, the areas I was playing in were a little bit deeper and under different systems," Cleverley told the Birmingham Mail. "It probably didn't suit my game perfectly.

"I'm motivated to prove a few people wrong and hopefully that does increase my performances."

Recently, Cleverley claimed that he is open to signing a permanent deal at Villa Park.
