David de Gea predicts successful campaign

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea backs his side to challenge for silverware during the 2016-17 campaign.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is confident that his club will be able to challenge for silverware during the 2016-17 campaign.

The Red Devils lifted the FA Cup last season, but were knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League and finished fifth in the Premier League, which led to Louis van Gaal leaving the club.

Now under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, De Gea, who is with Man United on their pre-season tour of China, is predicting an 'exciting' new era for the 20-time English champions.

"Of course, of course. I think we signed top players, really good players. We are Manchester United and we want to fight for everything," De Gea told reporters.

"I feel for the fans, for the club and the players [that something exciting is coming] - you feel like [it is] a new era. I think the club is really strong now. The players, we want to everything and hopefully we can do it."

Man United will continue their pre-season tour against Manchester City on Monday in Beijing. On Friday, Mourinho's side lost 4-1 to Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai.
