Rio Ferdinand hopeful of Manchester United success under Louis van Gaal

Rio Ferdinand insists that he is hoping to see Manchester United achieve success next season.

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that he is hoping to see Manchester United achieve success under new manager Louis van Gaal next season.

The former England defender, whose 12-year stay at Old Trafford ended when he was not offered a new deal, admits that he would have preferred to continue playing under the Dutch coach, who replaced David Moyes in May.

When asked if he was disappointed not to get the opportunity to work with Van Gaal, Ferdinand told the Daily Mail: "Yes, a little bit. But you can't cry over spilt milk, it happened.

"It's a new era now and I wish him well. I hope they do well and go on to win the league next year. Time will tell.

"I think he'll come in and do things a bit differently to how they were done before, so hopefully that will be a good thing."

Reports have suggested that Ferdinand has agreed to sign for Queens Park Rangers.
