Sir Alex Ferguson: 'Roman Abramovich wanted me at Chelsea'

Sir Alex Ferguson reveals that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wanted him to become the new Blues boss when the Russian took over in 2003.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he was once approached about becoming the new Chelsea manager.

The Scotsman, who retired from management at the end of last season following 26 years at the helm of Old Trafford, has claimed that Blues owner Roman Abramovich wanted him at the West London club when he bought the outfit in 2003.

The Russian tycoon has had a string of managers during a decade at the club, but Ferguson insisted that he had "no chance" of luring him to Stamford Bridge.

"They used an agent to approach me when Abramovich first took over the club, and I said no chance," Ferguson told US television network PBS.

The 71-year-old has also stated that he no longer gets "worked up" over United's results.
