Sir Alex Ferguson expects Roberto Mancini to be in Manchester for a long time.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he expects Roberto Mancini to remain at the Etihad Stadium for a long time.

The Scot, who has outlasted 18 different managers at Eastlands since his arrival at Old Trafford in 1986, believes that the Italian has the potential to hold on to the job for as long as he wants it.

"I can see Roberto being at City a long time," he said. "I am sure he is in one of the best-paid jobs and the salaries they are apparently paying their players are enormous so you are always going to attract the best players.

"There is no reason why he should want to leave that if they keep on winning. For me he has shown a lot of good decision-making in his time there.

"Most importantly, the way it looks to me, I think he has the strength of character to handle big players."

Mancini spent four seasons in charge of Serie A outfit Internazionale prior to joining the Manchester outfit in 2009.
