Phil Jones will not face a lengthy layoff and is fit to face Wigan on Monday, it has been confirmed.

Manchester United have confirmed that Phil Jones will be fit to face Wigan Athletic after a scan failed to find a break in the 19-year-old's jaw.

Reports emerged today tipping the defender to return to the Red Devils starting lineup despite suffering a head injury during the Premier League champions' 5-0 win over Fulham on Wednesday.

There were fears that the teenager would be sidelined for up to two months, but Jones's swift recovery will be welcomed by Sir Alex Ferguson, who has a number of absentees suffering with injury.

The red half of Manchester take on Roberto Martinez's side at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
