Ronald Koeman: 'Southampton didn't deserve to lose'

Ronald Koeman believes that Southampton were the better side in their 2-1 defeat against Manchester United.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that his side did not deserve to lose their Premier League match against Manchester United.

The Saints fell to a 2-1 defeat thanks to a double from Robin van Persie, in a game that saw them have five times as many shots as their opponents.

"We played attacking football and tried to press them," he told Sky Sports News. "We deserved more but on this level the difference is detail in the game and how you handle it when opponents make mistakes.

"But we had more chances, played better and had more possession. I said to the lads we didn't lose against United, we lost against ourselves."

Southampton have now lost their past three league games and have dropped to fifth in the Premier League table.
