Juan Mata praises former boss Ronald Koeman

Manchester United's Juan Mata praises Southampton boss Ronald Koeman for the impact that he had on his career.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has praised the impact that Southampton manager Ronald Koeman had on his career.

The Spaniard was given his La Liga debut by the Saints boss during their time together at Valencia, before the pair went on to win the Copa del Rey with Los Che.

Mata admits that he is looking forward to facing the Dutchman's side at St Mary's this evening.

"It's going to be a special reunion, since Ronald Koeman was my manager in Valencia when I won my first title as a professional footballer: the Copa del Rey," Mata wrote in his official blog.

"He was very important in my career because he gave me confidence and I played regularly, which is what every young player needs in his early years."

Southampton are fourth in the Premier League ahead of the game, while United sit a point behind in fifth.
