Manchester United quiet on Louis van Gaal appointment

Manchester United executive vice chairman remains quiet on rumours that Louis van Gaal will be appointed as the club's new manager today.

Manchester United's executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has refused to confirm or deny reports that Louis van Gaal is on the verge of being appointed as the club's new manager this week.

Widespread reports have claimed that the Dutchman could be named as David Moyes's permanent successor today following talks in the Netherlands this week.

Current interim boss Ryan Giggs is said to have been offered a position as Van Gaal's assistant after meeting with the Netherlands boss in Holland on Wednesday.

When asked by Sky Sports News about the potential arrival of Van Gaal, Woodward said: "I've got nothing to say at this point I'm afraid."

Van Gaal, who has already opted to cut ties with the Dutch FA after the World Cup in Brazil this summer, is expected to replace Moyes, who was sacked from his role in April less than 10 months after being chosen as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor.
