Henrikh Mkhitaryan wants to "create more history" at Manchester United

Henrikh Mkhitaryan targets his own place in Manchester United folklore after finally settling into life at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that he has set himself the target of 'creating history' at the club after establishing his place in the side.

The 27-year-old was voted Armenia's Player of the Year for the sixth time in a row on Wednesday afternoon, capping an impressive 2016 that has seen him star for Borussia Dortmund and earn a summer move to Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan, who has now won that individual accolade seven times in all, hopes to push on at United in the coming months and years in order to write his own name in the club's folklore under manager Jose Mourinho.

"I feel honoured to have won my 7th Armenian Player of the Year award! Thank you to the Armenian FA, my clubs, my fans and media representatives for believing in me!" he posted on his official Facebook account.

"I have devoted my whole life to football and achieved significant milestones, yet I feel I can still create more history for my club Manchester United and Armenia, a country which I love dearly and is always on my mind."

Mkhitaryan has missed United's last two games with an ankle injury, but is expected to be in contention to feature against Sunderland on Boxing Day.
