Jose Mourinho insists that he would have turned the Manchester United job down had he been offered it and claims he only wanted to manage Chelsea.

New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that he would have turned down the Manchester United job, had he been offered it.

The Portuguese was widely tipped to be Sir Alex Ferguson's successor, but United instead hired David Moyes as their next manager.

Mourinho insists that it does not matter and says that he knew Ferguson intended to retire a while ago.

"I new that Ferguson was retiring many months ago," Mourinho told The Telegraph. "And I'm happy with his trust because it is big news for the world.

"I am one of the guys that knows, and why do I know? Because we are friends. So if I am his friend to know that he's going to retire, he's always my friend to know that the club I want to coach in England is Chelsea.

"I would have turned every job in the world down. The Man United job, everyone."

Mourinho officially began his second spell as Chelsea manager last week.
