Jose Mourinho "very, very happy" with Luke Shaw

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says that he is "very, very happy" with how Luke Shaw has started the season, despite back-to-back defeats for his side.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that he is "very, very happy" with how Luke Shaw has started the season.

The duo have endured a tempestuous relationship since Mourinho's arrival at Old Trafford, with the Portuguese often publicly criticising the England international's performances and even questioning his desire.

However, Shaw has been one of the standout performers in an otherwise disappointing start to the season for United, and Mourinho was once again pleased with his display during the 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

"I was particularly pleased, I was telling him, 'You cannot play better than you did'. So of course the kid has to be upset with the result," Mourinho told MUTV.

"But the kid has to know that he had three very good matches in the Premier League and today he was very, very good. I am very, very happy with him."

United will look to bounce back from consecutive Premier League defeats when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.
