David Moyes: 'I wanted Gareth Bale at Manchester United'

David Moyes reveals that he wanted to bring Gareth Bale to Manchester United during his spell at the club.

David Moyes has revealed that he was "desperate" to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur while he was in charge of Manchester United.

The current Real Sociedad manager also leapt to the defence of Bale, who has come under-fire for his performances for Real Madrid this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Moyes said: "I was desperate to take him to Manchester United from Tottenham, but couldn't quite get him. He had his heart set on going to Real.

"He can score goals, can make goals, he's got speed, he's physically capable, and I think next year he will be a big star in Madrid."

Bale appeared to confirm last week that he will stay with the Spanish club.
