Gary Neville tells Jose Mourinho why Alexis Sanchez was "poor" against Palace

Gary Neville claims that Alexis Sanchez is not performing at his best level at Manchester United because of his position on the pitch.

Gary Neville has suggested that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is not getting the best out of Alexis Sanchez.

The Chile international joined the Red Devils from Arsenal in the January transfer window as part of a swap deal that involved Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Sanchez has since made eight appearances for the North-West outfit, but has been largely ineffectual having scored just once.

Neville believes that the 29-year-old is playing too deep and should be unleashed on the left-hand side, where he can pose more of a threat.

Following United's dramatic 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night, Neville gave his assessment of Sanchez's performance.

The ex-United captain said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football: "Alexis was poor tonight, there's no doubt about that. He was trying to play one-twos from 40 yards from goal. He is no good from there.

"For me, I see Alexis Sanchez as being at his best in the left channel, attacking defenders, committing them, playing one-two combination. He has to try and get in those positions for Manchester United.

"I just don't think he is at his best [in a deeper role]. He has tried him everywhere else and it hasn't really worked. What I think he has to do is get him out of the centre of midfield."

In the first half of the season, Sanchez scored seven goals and created three assists for Arsenal in 19 Premier League outings.
