Paul Pogba: 'Jose Mourinho arrival helped my decision to return to Man United'

Paul Pogba admits that Jose Mourinho's appointment as Manchester United manager helped sway him into rejoining the club.

Paul Pogba has admitted that Jose Mourinho's appointment as Manchester United manager was a factor in his decision to return to Old Trafford.

The France international became the most expensive footballer in history when he rejoined the Red Devils in an £89m transfer from Juventus.

Pogba spent three years playing for United before being given the green light by then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson to join Juve on a free transfer earlier this month.

"He helped with things," Pogba said in a Sky Sports News interview with Thierry Henry. "You see a big coach like him, who has done a lot and has won everything, and when he comes here, takes the players and wants to go back to winning.

"I played four years in Italy, if he'd come two years after I'd left [United], maybe I wouldn't have come, I would have stayed at Juve. I think it was the right time for him to come, and for me to come back."

Pogba is due to make his debut in tonight's clash against Southampton at Old Trafford after missing last weekend's 3-1 win over Bournemouth due to suspension.
