Wayne Rooney relishing Germany test

England striker Wayne Rooney admits that beating Germany is always extra special ahead of tomorrow night's showdown at Wembley Stadium.

England striker Wayne Rooney has declared that matches against Germany always have a special edge ahead of Tuesday's friendly international, targeting a morale-boosting win in a clash between World Cup contenders.

Roy Hodgson's side will face Germany tomorrow night for the first time since 2010, when Joachim Low's men emerged 4-1 victors from a contentious World Cup clash in Bloemfontein.

Rooney believes that the match has taken on extra significance following a 2-0 defeat to Chile last Friday, urging the Three Lions to approach the match with a positive mentality in search of a scalp.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's nice to beat anyone, but especially the Germans. It's always nice when you beat them.

"It's great when you beat the big teams. When we beat Brazil here [in February] it gave everybody a lift and to get the draw away at Brazil (in June) was a great result for us.

"It's important that we try to win the game but I think it's important we try to deliver what the manager wants from us on the pitch. Against Chile we did some good things but they caught us by surprise with the way they played. It will be a completely different game."

The Manchester United forward could be partnered in attack by Daniel Sturridge for the showpiece friendly, after he was passed fit by England medical staff following a foot injury.
