Manchester United have lost 12 of their first 25 Premier League matches of the season - their most at this stage of a campaign since 1973-74.

Manchester United have lost 12 of their first 25 Premier League matches of the 2024-25 campaign, which is their most at this stage of a season since 1973-74, when they had 13 defeats from their opening 25 league fixtures.

The Red Devils were relegated from the top flight in 1973-74, finishing down in 18th spot in the table, boasting a record of 12 wins, 13 draws and 17 defeats from their 42 matches to collect 37 points.

Man United are now 15th in this season's Premier League table following Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, picking up only 29 points from 25 matches, but they are still 12 points clear of the bottom three, so relegation is incredibly unlikely despite their issues this term.

Amorim has rued his team's inability to find the back of the net against Spurs, with Alejandro Garnacho passing up the away side's best chance of the match in the first period, firing over the crossbar from close range.

Amorim rues missed opportunities against Tottenham

"In the end, they score, we didn't. That was the big difference in the game. We had a lot of chances but in the end they scored one and we didn't," Amorim told Sky Sports News.

"The first step is to create situations. We have had games where we are around the box and not created situations. This game we create situations. But in this game with two teams not doing well, one goal was always going to make the difference.

"You start with one idea. We were asking about a long week for so long. And we worked our principles but day after day you lose players that change your approach to the game. I could not play the same way with Joshua [Zirkzee] as I can with Amad [Diallo].

"Sometimes you want Bruno [Fernandes] to reach the ball in the build up because he's really good switching the play. But then you want Bruno also to press and it's really hard. And when you are changing all the time to get the players to react to the base, it's really hard.

"4-4-2 in the low block is harder to play against this team than what we did today, that's my opinion. They are so open and stretch the team. What you see guys and what you discuss every week, I also see. I have a lot of problems, my job is so, so hard here. But I stick with my beliefs."

When are Man United back in action?

Man United will be aiming to bounce back from their latest setback when they head to Goodison Park next Saturday to tackle Everton in the Premier League.

The Red Devils will then be back at Old Trafford on February 26, welcoming Ipswich Town, before switching their attention to the FA Cup, with Fulham their opponents in the fifth round of the competition on March 2.
