Jose Mourinho 'believes he has Real Madrid escape route'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly confident that there is a job for him at Real Madrid should he be forced out of Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly confident that Real Madrid would be willing to offer him an escape route from Old Trafford if required.

Mourinho's future has been the subject of much speculation so far this season, with the Red Devils having only won six of their 14 league games in 2018-19 to already find themselves 19 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Madrid have suffered their own managerial woes so far this term, sacking Julen Lopetegui after only 14 games in charge and replacing him with Santiago Solari.

Reports have suggested that Solari's reign will not last beyond the end of the season, though, and the Evening Standard claims that Mourinho believes Madrid president Florentino Perez would be willing to bring him back to the Bernabeu.

Mourinho is not thought to have any plans to walk away from United just yet, but defeat in this evening's Premier League clash with Arsenal could leave his side 11 points off the Champions League places.

Both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal were sacked after failing to finish in the top four, and Mourinho could face a similar fate unless his side produce a significant turnaround in form.

Mourinho previously managed Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning one league title before leaving the club amid a breakdown in his relationship with the fans and a number of senior players.
